laura burhenn started out as a solo artist from washington, DC. in 1999, she founded her own record label, laboratory records, and began releasing solo work: “not ashamed to say” in 1999; a split 7” (“memory” with dagon james) in 2003, and “wanderlust” in 2004. black moth super rainbow included a remix of wanderlust’s “just for the night” on their 2008 release, “drippers.”

in 2005, laura teamed up with john davis, drummer of defunct DC trio q and not u, to form georgie james. laboratory released their first single in january of 2007. their debut LP, “places,” was released by saddle creek in september of 2007. after the duo parted ways in late 2008, laura ventured off to reinvent herself once more.

laura went into the studio with richard swift in the summer of 2009 and recorded what would become the debut album from her newest project, the mynabirds. saddle creek will release the album, “what we lose in the fire we gain in the flood,” on april 27, 2010.
